Only just recently did I learn that director Bob Clark (who died just this April 4th) was the director of A Christmas Story.
Bonus fun from IMDB: Factual error: In the last scenes with the Marching Band, I could clearly see the forward facing bell of a Marching Mellophone. Mellophones were created in the late 1960s (about 1966) and didn't really replace the French horns in most marching bands until mid 1970s.

I would have to say it would either be Alphaville or Erasure. For quite a long time whenever I haunted a used record shop (and they were records back them, kids) the first 2 things to look for was ANYTHING by these two.
Anyone listening to KDVS in the early mornings heard quite a bit from these two bands.
