My latest domestic indulgence is a new Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner. Its maiden voyage on the upstairs landing (~160 s.f.) yielded a stunning amount of carpet crud. Even more frightening is that our housecleaner vacuumed earlier in the day using a Miele canister vac. I realize that I really should get more of a life... but have to admit that I find this new machine, um, strangely satisfying.
We had a great time visiting the Glen Eyrie conference center in Colorado Springs - a very cool old castle and all sorts of wildlife. (Didn't get a picture of the wild turkeys, though.)
Our luggage caught a later flight in to the Denver airport, so we had to wait around for it. Conversely, our flight home was delayed by a few hours - again, more time hanging out at the airport with the kids. We tried to catch an earlier flight, but only our bags managed to get on. This was United, BTW. More ironically, the late bags were tied to first class tix, and the early ones were economy. Hmmm. We don't fly much these days, but our best recent flight experience has been on Virgin America.
Another United story: A long time ago (pre-kids), I was taking a United red-eye for a biz trip. I had a busy day, forgot to eat, and passed out in the back galley from low blood sugar - not long, just for a few moments. When I came to, a flight attendant was scowling at me for spilling the orange juice. Maybe she thought I was drunk, but she definitely wasn't helpful.
E woke up on his 7th birthday in front of the kelp forest at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was a Boy Scout overnight - a big adventure for a kid who doesn't yet do sleep-overs. Lights-out time was an impressively late 11 p.m. S and I stayed at a nearby hotel and met up the next morning to walk through aquarium.
